EMT Training Program

Initial EMT Certification: EMT Basic Training

Our comprehensive curriculum includes didactic lecture, realistic emergency simulation training, clinical ride-a-longs and interactive participation methods to train you for a career on a BLS or CCT Ambulance. Mastery of course topics and psycho motor skills can be completed in 20 days.  In total, 8 consecutive weeks from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. will provide 160 hours of didactic and skills training.  Classes typically run on Friday, Saturday and sometimes on Sundays. Classes start time is at 8 hours 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, 24 hours of ambulance ride-a-long will total of 190+ hours of in depth training.


River Delta's EMT Training Program fulfills the training requirements set forth by the State of California in Title 22 of the California Code of regulations Division 9, Chapter 2, for Emergency Medical Technician Basics.

 Course Description

This EMT re-certification course meets the state required hours to recertify your EMT license. The 24 hour course is scheduled over 3 eight hour days. 24 CE Credits and course completion certificate will be provided upon successful completion of all 24 hours of training.

EMT certification is valid for two years. In order to maintain certification an individual must recertify every two years. An individual is eligible for EMT recertification upon successful completion of the following requirements:

  1. Possess a current California EMT certificate or National Registry EMT certificate.
  2. Submit documentation of successful completion, every two years, of the following:
    • Completion of a 24-hour EMT refresher class or completion of 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE) Hours
      • AND
    • Skills testing and a completed Skills Competency Verification Form from an approved EMT Training Program or by an approved EMS service provider

Basic Life Support Course Overview

The BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers – Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Most healthcare providers are required to take this course. New beginners and expired BLS provider card holders will need to take this initial BLS certification course.

EMT Skills Verification for the State of California

  

Cost: $170.00

2 hours: ($50 charge applies for excessive time 2+ hours)


  1. Instructions for completion of EMT Skills Verification Form
  2. A completed EMT Skills Verification Form (EMSA-SCV 01/17) is required for those individuals who are either renewing or reinstating their EMT certification. This verification form must accompany the application. The form can be downloaded at the right.
  3. Verification of skills competency shall be accepted as valid to apply for EMT renewal or reinstatement for a maximum of two (2) years from the date of skill verification.
  4. The EMT that is being skills tested shall provide their complete name as shown on their California EMT certification, the EMT certificate number and signature in the spaces provided.


Verification of Competency 

Skills competency will be demonstrated by direct observation of a simulated patient contact, i.e. skills station.  The individual verifying competency shall:

  1. Sign the EMT Skills Competency Verification Form for that skill.
  2. Print their name on the EMT Skills Competency Verification Form for that skill.
  3. Enter the date that the individual demonstrated the competency of the skill.
  4. Provide the name of the organization that has approved them to verify skills.
  5. Provide their certification or license type and number.

EMSA-SCV (08/10) is herein incorporated by reference.  Skills competency shall be verified by direct observation of an actual or simulated patient contact. Skills competency shall be verified by an individual who is currently certified or licensed as an EMT, EMT-II, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant, or Physician and who shall be designated by an EMS approved training program (EMT training program, paramedic training program or CE provider) or an EMS service provider; EMS service providers include, but are not limited to public safety agencies, private ambulance providers and other EMS providers. Verification of skills competency shall be valid for a maximum of two (2) years for the purpose of applying for recertification. The skills requiring verification of competency are:

  1. Patient examination, trauma patient
  2. Patient examination, medical patient
  3. Bag Valve Mask Ventilation
  4.  Oxygen Administration
  5. Cardiac Arrest Management with AED
  6. Hemorrhage Control and Shock Management
  7. Spinal Motion Restriction – Supine and Seated
  8. Penetrating Chest Injury
  9. Epinephrine and Naloxone Administration

EMT Expanded Scope Certification

Certification in the cognitive and psychomotor of Naloxone,  Epinephrine and Glucometer, as required by Title 22 Div. 9 Chapter 2, as well as the US DOT HS 811 077A.
